Klocke Estate Fall Menu Highlight

A nordic inspired cocktail featuring Klocke Estate sweet cherry eau de vie, Linie norwegian aquavit, Forthave Spirits red bitter aperitif, and house-made hibiscus | sumac syrup. A light and refreshing take on traditional cherry ‘blood’ mead, this cocktail’s concept stemmed from a revelation I made about the origins of my family name ‘Higgins’.

In my travels to the west coast of Ireland, I discovered Higgins comes from the Irish “Ó hUiginn,” meaning descendant of Uiginn, a name derived from the Old Norse word for Viking. It is a Nordic surname that was adopted across the country of Ireland after centuries of Viking occupation. Fittingly named ‘Up River’, as a tribute to the seafaring nature of my newly recognized Viking forebears, and our proximity to the Hudson River here at Klocke Estate ⚓️
